Mulatto boy

Huvi f***ing loves tea, Sophie, and his boys. But when he applies for a British passport so he and Sophie can marry abroad, he discovers he was never legally registered at birth. Suddenly stripped of the identity he's always taken for granted, Huvi is forced to fight for his right to belong in the only country he's ever called home. As he digs into his mother's past with the help of his griot, he uncovers the truth about why she never registered him and who he really might be. Because if he's not British, then who is he?

Mulatto Boy is an innovative, funny, bold, spoken word inspired award nominated show exploring the link between black mixed-race identity and British national identity and how the two reflect and affect each other. Using minimal set, innovative sound and lighting design it is told through Angolan theatrical practices, language, music, dance and traditions. Mulatto Boy takes us on a gut wrenching ride and asks us, what is it to be black, mixed race and British and who gets to decide who we really are.
